Top Eleven
Holy Fuck
(Lo-fi casio driven rock. Meaty and cool. Saw them twice.) , Barry Adamson (Cool ,dark jazz pop), Ulrich Schnaus (Best laptop gig ever),
Steve Hillage's Mirror System, Grandmothers of Invention
(Both proving that oldsters can still cut the mustard)
Groove Armada
(Will they ever fail?) , Dengue Fever (Cambodian style psych), Nouvelle Vague (80's Bossa Nova style), The Duke Spirit (Rocking, grungy pop grooves. Acoustic set was great also), Francisco Lopez (The most unusual gig. Electronic. No visuals at all. Complete darkness), Jupiter Monkeys (Still rocking it the best)

On a Bollywood trip again
Found one of the "holy grail" of Bollywood songs
today. Mere Jeevan Saathi is a film soundtrack from '72 which features Kishor e Kumar doing the excellent "O Mere Dil Ke Chain". I also added "Aakhri Daao" LP to my Bollywood vinyl collection.

This set me onto surfing around youtube where I eventually came across Indian child star Rohit Shyam Raut on the "L'il Champs" TV show. Among the many tracks he did versions of, were "Roop Tera Mastana" (The ultimate track if ever the was one) & Dard E Disco. I managed to find a few more early 70's classic Bollywood tunes on "Symasters" page on youtube.

Beats and samples

Dert Floyd - Westside of the Moon - CDR - 2008 (Dert is a producer in LA. Featuring classic Pink Floyd vocal hooks, guitar samples, and drum breaks. Since this is a beat tape release. The tracks are short & untitled) It's been big on my playlist.

Nov 2008

2 DJ Shadow vinyls and DJ Pogo: Block Party Breaks: Classic original Breaks & rare funk 45s. A Suicide/Lydia Lunch 10" doing Frankie Teardrop. 1976 demo version: "Frankie Teardrop, The Detective Meets The Space Alien' 13:04min and a cover by Lydia. £LP compilation of Warp records. Massive Attack, Edgar Broughton: Wasa Wasa reissue

23rd Nov, 08
Recorded the "Birthday Mix" with D.Mark at Gladstone studio's.

22nd Nov, 08
Gig:
"Mister Mixup's Musical Melange" at the Loft, Nottingham: Jupiter Monkeys, Wickets, Fez & Neil Deakin.
A night of Music, Culture and Beer. Great fun. Thanks to all he came.
Neil started the night with half a dozen acoustic numbers, 2 of which were Zappa covers. Fez then took the stage and pumped out their brand of Germanic influenced Synth Rock. This was the first gig by Fez and a video was shot. Wickets were the loudest and heaviest band of the night making sure no one was sleeping in the Loft that night. "House on the hill, for the mentally ill" was a lyric which stuck out for me.
Finally the Jupiter Monkeys thrilled us with another fantastic set of energetic rock. Although covering "Come Together" (At my request) and "Whole Lotta Love" it was their own numbers which ruled the night. They are great.

18th Nov, 08
Can bootleg today. Zhengzheng Rikang. Limited unofficial edition (Bootleg) of demos recorded at Schloß Nörvenich between 1968 and 69. In fact, different versions of half of the songs have been previously released, these songs are just different takes, unaltered recordings for studio releases and a few bonus unreleased songs: Greyhound Greyhounds and Melting Away).

16th Nov, 08
In amongst all the "Fez" practice sessions I managed to get to the Melton carboot with Sam, Alice, Ian and Mark. Pretty good and one vinyl stall in particular resulted in some ace finds.
Sometimes you find a serious record. A genre defining record. I got "Acid Trax" original US release in mint by Phuture, Chicago-based group of acid-house pioneers, formed in 1985 and best known for its classic 1987 single "Acid Trax" which is considered to be the 12-inch single that gave birth to the acid house movement.
Also a double reissue of This Heat, Depeche Mode, Mick Ronson, YMO, Dr Who album from 1975. Also recently: Gary Toms - Turn it Out, Mods Mayday 79, Hendrix Eadio 1 sessions from Bart.

7th Nov, 08
So many records of late. Beastie Boys Mixup Album sampler 12", Higsons, Groove Armada: Are friends Electric, Phil Wilson: Industrial Strength EP, Midfield General, The Peddlers, Six by Seven, My Robot Friend

Oct 2008

15th Oct, 08

Gig: Holy Fuck / Alright The Captain atThe Social, Nottm
. Ace gig. Big crowd. Went with Ian, Fiona, Jon & Sam. Saw Joe from Wickets and John. Holy Fuck are in the running for the best band I've seen this year. Support from "Alright the Captain" making it 2 instrumental bands. Something of a pleasant change. Bought 2 12"s, one a double backed with the band Foals who do a Holy Fuck number and Holy Fuck doing a Foals number. Limited and each cover handmade.

Best Band Ever

An idea floated by Bart is for the 4 Loft DJ's to list our top ten bands and then we will combine the results give points and see who is best blah blah. An impossible job but I've gone for a serious list this time (it can change from week to week), bands that have lasted with me for a long time and I can still play and enjoy. The top 5 have always been my top 5 since the mid 70's. I'm sure I'll change my mind but......................
And don't forget people, it's just for fun.

I Still like finding old 60's/70's compilation albums. They always turn up an odd track amongst the usual well known numbers. It's also nice that these classic compilations will not appear on CD. Today I got the Vertigo comp "Suck it and see" with the likes of Sabbath, Jade Warrior, Kraftwerk & Alex harvey. Also got Thom Yorke The Eraser RMXS & Bloc Party Flux and oh yes, we are talking vinyl
.

21st Sept, 08

Sunday night and 4 scintillating DJ sets from Coyote, DM, Cellar & Eionlights liven the night at Barts.

20th Sept, 08

Fez is now back to a 3 piece but Slate shows up and plays guitar.

16th Sept, 08

First day back in Nottm after my Belgrade trip and I bought 23 LP' and singles. 20 were at 20p so a few fillers and duplicates, and as you do, make it up with a few dance 12"s. I also got a vg condition mono copy of Please Please Me for £2. On the black and yellow label too. Abbey Road & Kraftwerk "The Model" but a Golden Oldies pic sleeve. All from Anarchy records of course.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

6th - 15th Sept, 08
9 days in Belgrade
I visited Saša Marković Mikrob.

I bumped into a few old friends.

We put on an exhibition called "A Question of Rabbits" at Gallery Shok at the Art Klinika in Novi Sad.

I showed "my current favourite crop of pop video's/film" in a lecture for Sash & Micun's "Blackmarket" monthly slot at the Academic film centre, DKSG, Belgrade. Mister Mixup's Pop Film extravaganza Belgrade 10th Sept 2008

We saw 4 gigs.

Thursday
11th - Gig: Šinobusi - town square, Novi Sad. Šinobusi were a good blues band. It was part of the International festival of Street musicians in Novi Sad, Serbia. British band The Cosmic Sausages were there too but we never managed to see them.

Friday 12th
Gig: Jadranka Stojaković at SKC, Belgrade. Jadranka is a folk singer in something of a Joan Baez mould and was big in the former Yugoslavia and mean't a lot to "that" generation. Big crowd

Saturday 13th
Gig: Francisco López at the Rex, Belgrade. Francisco Lopez is a Spanish electroacoustic musician and biologist. Since 1983, he has released over 200 musical works. López works with sound objects and microsounds. In this performances he played in complete darkness and distributed blindfolds as an option for us to use. He was in the centre of the room and the audience were seated in circles around him but facing outwards. There was no visual show whatsoever. The surround sound varied from clanging ambience to full on sonic rumblings which had the windows rattling. A show of 45 minutes to an hour (I couldn't tell) mental pictures were the order of the day and it was a great experience. I chatted with Francisco before and after the show and bought his latest CD.

Sunday 14th
Gig: The Singing Loins / Gerda Blank at SKC, Belgrade. The Singing Loins from Medway, UK are a 3 piece folk rock band ala Billy Childish style. Great. Support were good too. From NZ called Gerda Blank Guitar and drums duo. As I am sometimes the only brit in the crowd at Belgrade I am a magnet for other Brits for that reassuring conversation of all things "home" and so it was with the Singing Loins: "I support Gillingham" "I support Forest".

We did the Gyspy markets looking for vinyl and "things" for Sash and Stevans forthcoming exhibition.
I came home with about 50 LP's, singles and CD's. The vinyl was split between domestic Yugoslav bands (Yu Grupa, Korni Grupa, Time, Azra etc) and Yugoslav editions of well known rock/pop bands from the past. Other things includes CDR's from Sash each with hand painted covers: Kevin Coyne, Os Mutantes, Supernaut, Doktor Spira, Can, Baba Zula & Mad Professor and much more.

Below: Classic Yugoslav rock and the first Earth Wheel Sky LP (first pic), the first modern Romany gypsy music from '81. When I first visited Belgrade in 1990 I remember Sash playing a track we knew as "Calling all gypsy's". It stuck in my mind but was forgotten by others until Sash played the album by chance this time around. I immeadiately recognised it. It's part of the memory of that first fantastic visit.

I also bought another batch of gypsy cdr's from Zemun market. Stars like Naseri & Remzi.

Back to reality after Glastonbury. Nipped in to Anarchy Records and got DSOTM with mint posters and stickers. My posters went long ago, faded and torn by the early 80's. Also Kraftwerk Model 12" and Corduroy 12" of Motorhead. A bit later I found a Linten Kwesi Johnson album, Duke Ellington and Toots Hibbert all 3 for 50p. Another vinyl tranfer job. Paid with 37 records inc John Handy - Hard Work, Tony Rallo, Big Youth and more..
Still on the playlist a lot is the Death in Vegas, Milk it Remixes album

June 2008

21st-30th June, 08
-
I went to Glastonbury festival with Dan, Mog, Jude, Phil & Helen.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (The week before)
Worked for Oxfam. Saw old faces, met new. The Glasto curry, food, fire and drinks.

Wednesday
Festival opens. First day out proper. Lots of time at the Jazzworld. Met Luke and co. Cider. A long and drunken day.

Thursday

We heard a couple of bands at the Leftfield and a cool band at Jazzworld. Met up with Joe, Becks, Daryl. Rain eventually stopped play.

Friday
We heard Kate Nash and The Subways from camp.
We hit the site.
Sometime over the weekend I won the "Glastonbury Golf" tournament which we had started the year before.
We got stoned to see Steve Hillage's Mirror System at the Glade. Brilliant.
We made our way to the Jazzworld where we saw the Fun Lovin' Criminals. I love 'em. Then Estelle and finally Jimmy Cliff rounded of a intoxicated night in style. Especially for me as I entered one of those sub concious "I can still hear the gig" passed out states. The cider is strong.

Saturday
We heard Shakin' Stevens and Martha Wainwright from our camp
Getting down to the site Seasick Steve was in full flow on the Pyramid stage with his 3 stringed guitar singing about the doghouse.
We made our way to the John Peel tent and saw Holy Fuck. Ace. Lo-Fi Casio driven rock.
Later in the dance village we saw Dub From Atlantis & Metronomy. Metronomy is Joseph Mount an electronic artist from Devon and remixer for Ladytron, Franz Ferdinand, Roots Manuva (you get the picture). In live shows Joseph is joined by Gabriel Stebbing on Bass and Keyboards and Oscar Cash on sax, keys and melodica. 80's synthi pop. Cool.
Mog nipped off to see Joan Armatrading while me and Dan caught a little of The Wombats and listened to The Duke Spirit behind us in the Queens Head.
After seeing Duffy we hit the dance village taking the sounds of the Plump DJ's & The Grid doing a set.
We chilled in the backstage bar at the John Peel tent.where I managed to hold of a vinyl album by Holyfuck from one of the band.

Then we made our way through the crowd to find a position to see Jay Z. He started with a version of Wonderwall in answer to Noel Gallagher's comments and went on to do a great set.
Later we saw half of The Levellers and some of Kangaroo play in the Avalon cafe finishing off with "What shall we do with a drunken sailor"..
We took in the saturday sights and carried on until we passed out at dawn.

Sunday
We heard the sultry tones of Gilbert O'Sullivan from our camp at midday and then headed off out for the day.
Met up with Joe, Becky and Daryl to see the Brian Jonestown Massacre at the Pyramid stage. He's a nutter.
Then we all went to see The Duke Spirit do an acoustic set in the Guardian Lounge. Great.
Passed by John Mayer on the Pyramid stage on the way to see a little of Billy Cobham & Asere at Jazzworld before moving on.
Dengue Fever at the Queens Head were great. Reviving Cambodian psych rock crossover music, the sort Pol Pot had erased.
Watched a bit of Mark Ronson at the othere stage and stumbled across Lady Hawk in the dance lounge. Hot new act.
Chilled in the backstage bar at the John Peel tent. Met up with Ian and Simon working with Spiritualized. Dan watched the Euro 2008 final in the bar while the rest of us went to see Spiritualized in the John Peel tent. Excellent.
We met up with Dan and Jude and for our finale we squeezed in to see Groove Armada rock the Other stage. We usually watch the last band on the Pyramid stage Sunday night but we will see The Verve in a couple of months so the groove it was. In all the times I've seen them they've never done a bad show. There was plenty of weed (just a tiny bit for me and Mog) and pill popping around us but even straight they can lift anyone. Great way to end the festival.
After 9 days of living it rough and hard partying we was knackered.
Time to go home.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15th June, 08 - Another vinyl transfer job.
15th June, 08 -
Carbooting today and visits to Anarchy records and Auntie Christines have in the past couple of days have dug up many vinyl gems including Bobby Womack 12" from 1972 on UA (very early 12" record), Loft Classics Vol 8 (Unauthorised release), Mandre Two, The Orb, KLF, 1910 Fruit Gum Co., X-Rays, Grandmaster Flash, XTC, Hillage, Specials, Creatures, Bonzo Dog Band and "The New Transistor Heroes" by Bis which is a great album. Limited on red vinyl too.

Low Water sent me their album the other day and it's been playing everyday since. Thanks guys
Another pop quiz at the Loft tonight.
Fez is still going strong but the festival season is upon us so there will be less rehearsal time in the summer.

9th June, 08 -
Another pop quiz at the Loft. Bart set one and I set one which was split into 2 parts. Bart won again.

6th June, 08 - Gig: Overvibe / Kings Claw / The Limits / Republic at Junktion7, Nottingham. Went with Gio to see Si leading the new look Overvibe.

Got hold of 3 mint Pistols bootlegs at Auntie Christines. Also Jimmy Smith live in Hamburg and a couple of records for DMark.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 2008

26th May, 08 -Gig: The Blockheads / The Beat
in the market square, Nottingham. Part of the Councils holiday weekend "City Pulse" festival. Down with Ian, Fiona, Jon & co. We knew lots of their tunes. The Beat threw in a cover of Rock the Casbah. All was well.

Earlier in the day while booting with Ian I got a near mint Canadian copy of the "Bollocks" album complete with inner sleeve and a green vinyl copy of Devo's first album.

The previous day I got a batch of singles and a few albums inc Beastie Boys She's On It, Kraftwerk The Model, again, The Ruts, Sputnik etc

Recently I downloaded part of the Pink Floyd gig I went to on November 16th 1974 at the Empire Pool two days after my 17th birthday. All of DSOTM (which I think already have) and the encoe Echoes which I have never heard since that day. The gig features in Q magazines top ten Floyd gigs of all time and I was there. First starting with brand new Shine on you crazy diamond, Raving and Drooling ang You gotta be crazy (these last two ended up as Sheep and Dogs on Animals) then onto DSOTM with sax and singers added so it was heard for the first time like the album in quadraphonic sound with a 50ft back projection screen and finally Echoes. Mythical. After the gig I remember buying 3 or 4 vinyl bootlegs of a guy outside. They were selling like hot cakes. Before the gig I bought the programme and a green silk PF scalf. It was the seventies afterall.

23rd May, 08 -Gig: Jupiter Monkeys / Jamie Todd
at The Guitar Bar, Deux, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham. Gio, Mike, Magda and friends joined me in a night put on by Jamie at the great live music venue which is Bar Deux. The Jupiter Monkeys were great, I like them, sandwiched between Jamie Todd and friends playing acoustic sets.

18th/19th May, 08
-
Carbooting again. Top finds. VG condition accordian, new keyboard and a bunch of LP's inc "Boys Don't Cry" by The Cure. their first album release in the states. Also Scratch by the Crusaders.

I set another pop quiz for sunday night. Bart won again. Monday at A records I continued in an 80's theme gettig vinyl by The Danse Society, Maximum Joy, Tackhead, Dali's Car (pic above), Monochrome Set etc.

15th May, 2008 -
Low Water are a rock band from Brooklyn, NY, USA. They have just made a video that is just people in a photobooth. Check it out on youtube here, it's cool. Thanks to Dave Rubin from the band.

11th May, 08 -
Pop Quiz at the Loft. Bart put together the inuagural quiz and I put together a second one only a couple of hours before on the theme of colours. Points were awarded and prizes were won.

4th May, 08
-
Carbooting in Derbyshire. Dug up Kinks Lola versus Powerman LP, You can all join in sampler, Otway and Wild Willy Barrett 1st & Genesis Foxtrot and a few other bits. Stop Smoking mix (Whisk 210) at Gladstone studio's feat. DJ's Cellar, DM & Eionlights.

3rd May, 08 - Gig: Mars Bonfire / Jester
at The Britannia Club, Nottingham. Down with Ian & Fiona for Maria's Birthday party. Maria is also manager of Mars Bonfire who are a hard rocking group playing there own stuff in a Led Zep/Hendrix style. Powerful. Jester are a covers band doing AC/DC, Lizzy, Led Zep and the like.

April 2008

26th April, 08 - Gig: Old Basford / 1st Blood
at The Orange Tree, Nottingham. Nice set from heavy soulful boogie boys, Old Basford. Was down with Ian,Fiona, John & Maria. Met Baz who I haven't seen for a couple of decades. Talk of Stonehenge festival and certain substances commenced and the drinks flowed.
1st Blood are a Nottingham Hip Hop act.

24th April, 08 - Gig: Park and Ride
at The Royal Children, Nottingham. Tony Ross fronts this covers band doing mainly 80's new wave stuff: The Jam, Pistols, Undertones with a couple of oldies from The Stones and T.Rex. A night out for Postmen and Postwomen. Brenda, Gio, Fredo, Neil, Wayne, Swifty and more meant a fun night was had by all. Tony dropped his kaks at the end to show of his bottomless pants. Typical. Laughs all round.

22th April, 08 - Gig: Ulrich Schnauss / Airiel / Model Morning
at The Social, Nottingham. The Social was packed for this gig. The Bartman couldn't make it so Gio snapped up the ticket. I was put on to Ulrich Schnauss by my brother in the word of mouth way that brought his first album to peoples attention. Shoegaze electronica with a nod to Tangerine Dream it's a really nice listen and even if it's a laptop performance it's still good with cool video's to compliment it. Well appreciated by the crowd. When the set was done Ulrich stepped of the stage and went straight to the bar. Nice one Ulrich.
Airiel are from Chicago and Model Morning are from Nottingham. 2 great shoegaze bands to start the evening, Model Morning did a pretty impressive set in particular. Well worth checking out.
The night was put on by club/label Sonic Cathedral. I bought 3 of their 7" singles, one of them a nice cover of "White Horses" from the 70's

Among the vinyl I've got recently is an original copy of Virgin Fugs on ESP-Disk. The Fugs are New York politico beatnik hippies. Downloaded are The Beatles live in Paris 1965, both shows. Also the 13 CD complete Woodstock. With all the official releases this makes it possible to hear almost everything that was played in the 2 Day extravaganza.

6th April, 08 - Gig: Barry Adamson / Crackle
at The Rescue Rooms, Nottingham with Bart. Another excellent gig. We were priviliged to see Barry and his 6 piece band in superb form with ace sax, trumpet and keyboards taking the lead roles doing almost all the new album "Back to the Cat" and some other classics. We bought the limited vinyl album.

Ok, Barry has a niche market. He explore emotions and feeling through music of many types drifting between dark, swinging jazz, funk, pop, soul and film soundtracks, but a groovier jazzclub sound you'd be hard pressed to find. Barry Adamson used to play bass with new wave outfit Magazine, Visage and Nick Cave until he went solo in the late 80's. He's got a gig coming up in NY in May. If I had the cash I'd get a flight and go. One for you Claire! Barry Adamson

Crackle were an interesting support act. Synth & Keyboard sequences with a drummer and bass player, not unlike the band "Fez" that I'm strutting my stuff with at the moment. With added layers and occasional dub effects they produced a purely instrumental set. A few laughs went out when one of there tracks was announced "that was obviously Alien transmissions". They have connections to Nottingham Jazz experimentalists "Pinski Zoo".

Some other bits of vinyl: Dub Pistols, Moby & a "How to stop smoking" LP, Suicide 2nd lp, Neil's heavy concept album, Club Culture Club 12" selected by the Glimmer Twins feat. The Residents. Downloaded good quality rare Doors/Zep TV broadcasts from the late 60's. Fez CD cover finished. New BMS track out "Future Past". New tracks up and about by the Rattking too. My mate Tony has just had a piece of music used in CSI Miami. Kalvin sent me a link to this Star Wars Gansta Rap

March 2008

30th March, 08
- Carbooting with Sam, Ian & Mark at Melton. Some great finds this week. One of those funk job lots you dream about. Mint 180gram LP's: Rotary Connection, Booker T, The Meters, Nothing but Funk vol 4, Sugerhill Gang, Keb Darge's Legendary Deep Funk vol 3, Ike & Tina - Her Man His Woman, Herbie Hancock, Salsoul 12", Chic. You get the picture. Some where marked up at £20. In the end I got the box full for a tenner. Nice one. Also today, Test Dept album The Unacceptable face of freedom (which had Mark raise his eyebrows), original Beatle US release "Beatles 65" on Capitol, mint first McCartney solo lp (with Pitman break), Jeff Beck, Inner City Unit, Hendrix, A Simon Mark Ozone white label, Nina Simone and a few other 12"s. Esther Ofarim and Tony Harrison Trio for sampling. The Tony Harrison Trio with Around Midnight at the Selby Fork Hotel - LP - S - 1960's/70's?? (There is no catalogue number. I think the S symbol sat in a y shape on the label refers to the Selby Fork hotel so it's probably a private pressing. They are "The Commodore at midnight atmosphere" club style unit, a little like The Peddlers maybe.)

Listening to new albums by The Orb & Portishead.

23rd March, 08
- Carbooting with Sam, Alice, Ian & Mark at Mansfield. Big find. A nice choice Brian Auger LP (He's the Godfather of AcidJazz) Happiness Heartaches.
Other bits too.
After more than a years break here comes Life In The Big Apple - Vol. #12 from DJ Coyote on Whisk
Followed fast by a second "Felix" comp.

DJD2 has a gig coming up in May. Also on the bill is Joe in Nebula 2. Hope the vibes are cool boys.

-
Carbooting with Eion Lights and Difficult Mark. A stack of interesting lp's from traditional Chinese music to Pig Bag to the Ian Cambell folk group. I also got 3 Beatles related albums, "Hey Jude", "The White Album" and the "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band", his first solo album under his own name. 3 experimental albums preceded this under the Plastic Ono Band title. A few bits on eBay recently as well. Kraftwerk, The Peddlers, The Higsons.
Had to download "Waking up Scheherazade", a compilation of 60's/70's garage psych from Egypt, Iran, Algeria and Lebanon. Cool.
14th March, 08 - Today from Rob&Jills: Funkaho on Stones Throw. VG. . Also Derek&Clive, Mind Over Matter, Sex Pistols, Ralph McTell.

11th March, 08 - Gig: Grandmothers of Invention
, at The Boardwalk, Shefield with Ian, Fiona, John & Maria. Excellent. You either like Zappa or you don't. Wonderful stuff from wonderful guys. Music to my ears. Original members Roy Estrada (Bass and high pitched doo wop vocals), Don Preston (keyboards) and Napolean Murphy Brock (Vocals, Saxophone and flute were augmented by Miroslav Tadic (Guitar) & Christopher Garcia (Drums). Don told a few Mothers stories inbetween tracks. Napolean looked great, really happy and as gave good as performance as you could wish for. Roy's career goes right back. He cut a bit of vinyl before Zappa and was in the original band that became "The Mothers" when Zappa joined.
Miroslav and Chris were great too. To play guitar under the shadow of Zappa must be a task of sorts. Suffice to say Miroslav played brilliantly in his own style which both complimented the back catlogue they were performing and his own cool playing. The set includes such gems as Twenty small cigars, Montana, Andy, Who are the brain police, The Air, Oh No, The Orange County Lumber truck, Florentine Pogen and many more. For once I took a bunch or my albums along to be signed. It was great to have a few words with them. They all took time out which was cool. I told Chris that my brother lives in California, Santa Clarita. It turns out that both he and Miroslav work there. Small world.
Napolean Murphy Brock with Fiona & Mixup and Roy Estrada with Ian.

7th March, 08
- Gig: Gary Numan Rock City, Nottm: plus support. Doing his Tubeway Army Replica's tour. Ade Fenton played keyboards. I've met Ade a couple of times at Tony's. They both make house and tekno tunes.

3rd March, 08 -
yesterday I got a copy of the 4 LP Box Set of Minimum Maximum by Kraftwerk.
Ian, Ive & Me did sets using coloured vinyl on Sunday night.
Strange and erm colourful.
Big on the playlist this month is Rufus Harley, Bagpipe playing jazz dude. Thanks Tracey for that one.

Feb 2008

29th Feb, 08 -
today got the original first press of Gang of Fours 1st 7" "Damaged Goods", 2 Monochrome Set LP's & Velvet Underground White Light on vinyl. The Monochrome Set are from that late 70's new wave/essence of pubrock with slight "Cardiacs" style prog leanings. My pal Sash likes em. A relatively obscure offshoot band (from the all powerful cultural drift) but with their own uplifting spirit. Earlier this week I got The Peddlers Freewheelin, Renaissance Live at Carnigie Hall, Blues Band 1st LP and a Deram Mono sampler from 1969. Downloads a plenty. Still listening to Rufus Harley: the bagpipe playing jazz dude from the 60's/70's.
Recent Fez rehearsals have been crazed but good.

Justus Kohncke - Safe and Sound, 2008 on the playlist. Includes a cover of Feuerland by Michael Rother so been playing 3 solo albums by Michael. Good sound.

18th Feb, 08
- Got a copy of the first Malo album from 1972. Ace. It featues Carlos Santana's younger brother. Also a single by The Sugar Rays.
Been listening to the Delton 3030 Instrumentals album and also a bootleg of them live in 2000.

9th-13th Feb, 08
- A few days spent ont the east coast in Skegness means an opportunity to see what can be found in the local charity shops. Well, when we (vinyl junkies) say we sometimes find a rare gem for pence it's nice to be able to show an example ocassionally. For 99p I found a copy of "1990" by Daniel Johnston. He has some cult status and his recordings are hard come by. For most of the 80's they were cassette only. I looked this album up on eBay to see what it was going for and found one at £64.99 buyitnow. Sure you can get it cheaper but it just shows you. It was ironic really because the Oxfam shop I found it in had a section of rarer expensive items like "The Beatles" etc which I didn't look through. Some other 99p/50p records in the cheap box by Nina Simone, The Farm, Neil, Wendy Craig, PWEI and Cd's by Moby/Debbie Harry & The Aliens made for an interesting batch. Just to keep my Beatles section growing I added the official fridge magnets and some fake £50 Beatles money. Fab.

8th Feb 2008
- Dropped into Rob & Jills shop "Anarchy Records" today. Found 2 bootleg CD's, Floyd & Hendrix. Also another Floyd CD and 2 copies of Leftfields Leftism as presi's. A classic 90's album I'd say. The only bit of vinyl I got was a B-Movie 12" on Wax records of Remembrance Day.

7th Feb 2008 - Gig: Nouvelle Vague / Gabriella Cilmi in support at the Rescue Rooms.. After having a month off I started the gig trail again with Ian and Fiona at the Rescue Rooms, Nottm. Great gig. Nouvelle Vague do great covers of classic late 70's/80's tunes by such artists as Joy Division, XTC, Dead Kennedys, Buzzcocks, The Cramps and the like in a Bossa Nova style. Gabriella is an Aussie singer.

Jan 2008:
Big on my playlist
- Ray Harris & The Fusion Experience. Spotted Ray Harris on myspace and got the album. Cool Nu Jazz.

Bumped into Roger at the supermarket. Not seen him for years. Artist & Musician. Check out some sounds here http://www.showcaseyourmusic.com/rogmusic
and his site here http://www.arkayeff.com/
